Salvation in Slab City

Niland, California. Like last spring break, we stuffed into car to drive for hours east into the desert. I present: Salvation Mountain, built by leonard knight over 35 years from gallons of paint, tons of straw and clay, and a bit of faith.

the start of the three hour ride

the day was so windy, we later thought we'd get thrown off the mountain

Just a bit of air guitar

Afterwards we talked to him. Mr. Minnesota even recorded his voice. I doubt some of the numbers he told us - 80,000 gallons of paint, 4,000 flowers- but they're the least important part.

"Jesus Christ loves everyone. All you need is to keep it simple."

The ride home was so serene. Especially because we were listening to R. Kelly.

By the way, tumblweeds are real. And they are serious.
