We're home now.

New 'do and everything. If you count it up, I was really only gone for 7 months. I think I have an obligation to the title to at least finish August out.

I left paris when they were installing that terrible sham (sidewalk) of a beach. My friends waved goodbye at the airport. It felt like I was landing as soon as I took off.

What a year. But it turns out, everything I've ever needed is already available in my childhood home. Food, people, sharpie markers. I never have to go to Office Depot again.
My father paints and repaints the bathroom walls.
My mother replaces the dining room set and argues with the carpet cleaner.
Just look at who I've been missin' out on.

Cross cultural moments:
. Wine in the park is now illegal.
. "Hi, I'm Janelle." As I lean in for the kiss, I get, "OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING"
. It's weird to say "pardon." Who are you, the queen of England?
. gentrification turned my scary walk to the metro into a target, a bed bath and beyond, and washington sports club while I was gone
. Where are all the baguettes?
. Why is this sandwich so big????
. OMG What do you meeeeean "please wait to be seated"?
. I can use big english words again.
They get harder to peg the longer you stay in one place.
also I'm suddenly "still not old enough" to do ANYTHING. but getting back into the swing of things. school. internships. being a diner waitress. it was a super awkward feeling at first, but i'm slowly regaining my american mannerisms and former personality.
By the way Paris was beautiful.

work.

Thanks for tagging along.

I hope you never take those memories for granted. It's dazzling in this condensed, out-of-context version, so I'm sure it was an amazing total experience.
